Overcoming feeling of sexual immorality

Question:

Dear Counsellor,
I want to stop every feeling of sexual immorality. I have given my life to Jesus Christ but all the same the feeling would not stop. I was trying to observe a period of fasting to solve the problem, but I could not. Please, come to my rescue. I need an advice.

Dear youth
I am happy to read in your letter that you have given your life to Christ. I want you to know that a normal human being has some natural instincts which include sexual urge. It is part of God's plan for procreation when it is properly utilized in a marriage relationship. Such urge starts manifesting in varying degrees at puberty. The challenge now is for individuals to know how to handle it. As a born again youth, do not feed the urge by exposing yourself to objects of temptation.

Avoid ungodly associations and closeness with the opposite sex. Reject all immoral thoughts that come to your mind. And let the word of God dwell richly in your heart (2 Corinthians 10:4,5). However, there are cases where this could be as a result of having been involved or exposed to different types of sexual immoralities such as watching immoral sexual clips, browsing immoral sites, reading pornographic books, watching nude pictures or almanacs, having immoral and sexual relationships, evil imaginations, bad friends, and being sexually involved with someone in occult. Now that you have given your life to Christ and you desire to be free from all forms of sexual immorality you will need to take the following steps:

1. Cut off from all forms of immoral relationships and friendship (1 Corinthians 15: 33). You must be decisive and very serious about it if you mean to be free. It is a war that must be fought with all your God-given might (2Corinthians 10:4,5).

2. Make the Bible your guide and make up your mind not to do anything contrary to God's word no matter what. Submit your thoughts, desires and ambitions to the scrutiny of God's word and you will be protected from evil allurements.

3. Avoid anything (including gazing at nude pictures, reading immoral materials, browsing pornographic sites, etc) that could influence your thoughts or feelings toward sexual immoralities.

4. Pray with faith that God should keep you from all forms of immoral thoughts and defilements.

5. Read and meditate on the word of God daily. The Bible is the weapon that will ensure your complete victory in Christ. Read the Bible, meditate on it and memorize it so as to find it handy at the hour of temptation (Matthew 4:4).

6. Occupy yourself with spiritual activities such as evangelism, prayers, follow-up, etc. However, if the problem persists, see your local Pastor for further help. Thank you and God bless.

Yours in Christ,
The Student Counsellor.
